Beloved NYC children’s performer Moey stars in “Moey Live -- P is for Party!” the new interactive musical for children ages 1-8 at the DR2 Theatre on 103 East 15th Street. Using words and props that start with P (like puppets, princesses, parents, and pizza) the audience helps Moey and her band plan the most wonderful party ever for shh.... a very special surprise guest. There’s no pin-the-tale-on-the-donkey at this party – just lots of pompoms, pirates, and audience participation with Moey, the “Pied Piper in Pink!”
Moey (AKA award-winning Off Broadway songwriter, Melissa Levis) was introduced to Broadway musicals by her Aunt, Wendy Wasserstein. Wendy gave Melissa the cast album of Annie, her first feather boa, and a lifetime love of musical theatre.
“I want this to be a magical introduction to the delights of musical theatre,” says Levis. Kids are an active part of this production. They shout out answers from the audience. They come on stage and dance. They dress up in costumes. It’s like “Rocky Horror” for toddlers!”
Moey earned the moniker “The Pied Piper in Pink” after giving 20 free concerts this summer on behalf of Central Park Conservancy, The New York Public Library, Union Square Park, Carl Shurz Park, the Tribeca Film Festival, and Barnes & Nobles. From the Bronx to the Lower East Side, Moey spread music with her band of banjo, guitar, drums, and her signiture pink dress.
For the past 15 years, Melissa entertained in Beverly Hills, Palm Beach, Aspen, and the playgrounds of the rich and famous; now she entertains in the playgrounds of Central Park. She used to sing Custom Song serenades for $5000 for 40, 50, & 60 year-old birthdays for Jonathan Tisch, Ron Galotti, Francine LeFrak, Henry Silverman and other business and social titans. Now she earns $500 to sing for 4 year olds at Dylan's Candy Bar. She sang the national anthem at Bridgehampton Polo in 1996. On August 20th, she sang at CMEE, the Bridgehampton Children's Museum.
“I traded in the A list for the ABCs,” laughs Levis. “But I love it.”
At Moey Live, children who are celebrating their birthdays are invited on stage for a personalized birthday song. Birthday kids pull open the piñata full of take home party favors. Parents who buy 10 tickets receive 2 free tickets. Birthday groups that buy 30 tickets get 6 free tickets plus complimentary use of the DR2 birthday party playroom. Friday matinees at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM are offered for school groups. General admission tickets are $25. School group tickets are $12.
